Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S), Masdar’s global initiative to empower the next generation of sustainability leaders, has launched Beyond Borders, an international programme that takes sustainability learning beyond the classroom to deliver real-world impact.

Al-Futtaim, a diversified and progressive privately held regional business headquartered in Dubai, and Masdar’s Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) initiative today announced the successful completion of their six-month collaborative programme. Under the initiative, Al-Futtaim co-hosted three impactful events to provide around 100 Y4S young cohorts with unique insights into real-world sustainability practices to solve challenges across retail, mobility and real estate sectors.

Masdar’s Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) initiative has been named ‘Innovator of the Year’ for the Middle East and North Africa region in the Energy Heroes Awards 2025, recognizing its leadership in empowering the next generation of sustainability champions.

The UAE-based renewable company aims to equip young professionals and women with the sustainability skills, expertise, and global exposure needed to drive meaningful change.

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has visited the Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) Hub at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025. Organised by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company ‘Masdar’, ADSW takes place at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi until 18 January 2025.

Y4S is a global initiative dedicated to nurturing the next generation of sustainability leaders.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) – the UAE’s premier youth empowerment platform on sustainability – hosted an insightful programme of empowering discussions and speeches at the Y4S Forum at COP28.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S), a Masdar initiative, will host a dedicated program of youth-focused activities and events at COP28 in Expo City, Dubai, from November 30 to December 12. The Y4S program promotes meaningful, youth-led action on sustainable development and climate change, while amplifying the voices of future sustainability leaders.

Y4S supports the growth of the next generation of pioneers and innovators through its Future Sustainability Leaders and Sustainability Ambassadors programmes and global outreach activities

Participants benefit from the development real-world skills, knowledge and networks needed to accelerate their academic and professional careers in sustainability

The Y4S Hub will include an ‘Out-of-Labs’ workshop, showcasing nine innovation projects developed by UAE-based university students.

Empowering the youth to chart a sustainable future is now a necessity, asserted the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), noting that the Department has been at the fore for years leading efforts to achieve this strategic objective.

The decisions we make today will shape the world you will live in tomorrow,” said His Excellency Eng. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), in his keynote speech addressing the Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) Virtual Forum during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2021.

Since its establishment, the UAE has made pioneering efforts to empower and nurture youth, to support the development of society and the economy, and to safeguard the nation’s future. In line with this vision and recognising the importance of developing the next generation of sustainability leaders, Masdar launched its Youth 4 Sustainability platform this year.
