Code 4 Climate Hackathon

On May 11 and 12, 2024, the Code 4 Climate Hackathon took place at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, bringing together the next generation of sustainability leaders to tackle real-world challenges with innovative solutions. Hosted by the Youth 4 Sustainability (Y4S) initiative, the Hackathon offered Y4S Sustainability Ambassador members hands-on experience in integrating artificial intelligence into mobile applications to address critical global priorities, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 13 and SDG8.

Participants faced the challenge of coding an AI-enabled mobile app to identify skill gaps in the green economy and connect youth with training and job opportunities in sustainability and climate-related sectors. Guided by five core skills – technical proficiency, problem-solving in climate action, teamwork, innovation and communication – the teams presented their solutions to a jury panel, showcasing their creativity and determination to drive impactful change.

This event empowered young innovators to advance their skills while contributing to sustainable development, emphasizing the critical intersection of technology and climate action.
